About Solar & EV Planner

Solar & EV Planner is an independent set of tools for working out whether a residential solar installation makes financial sense in a specific place. It is not an installer, a broker or a lead-generation service — we do not sell systems, take commission on quotes, or pass your details to anyone.

What the site covers

We publish three guides for each of 1,190 locations across 40 regions in United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and France:

• Grants and incentives — which support schemes apply in that country and how they are claimed.
• Installation cost — system sizing and cost benchmarks, expressed in local currency and units.
• Savings calculator — payback period and long-run savings, preloaded with that region’s electricity rate.

How the numbers are produced

Every figure on a location page is either read directly from our regional dataset or computed from it against an assumption stated on the page itself. The two inputs that do most of the work are the regional electricity rate (what a system displaces) and system size (what it generates). We publish the rate we used on each page so you can check it against your own bill and adjust.

Where a figure depends on something we cannot know — your roof orientation, your shading, the quote you are offered — we say so rather than presenting a single number as fact. Our full approach to sourcing and correcting information is set out in our editorial policy.

What we deliberately do not do

• We do not state grant amounts or percentages for countries where the figure changes year to year and we cannot verify it at the time you read the page. We name the scheme and the body that administers it, and point you there.
• We do not invent city-level programmes. Where support is national or regional rather than local, the page says so plainly.
• We do not present estimates as quotes. See our disclaimer.

How the site is funded

The site is free to use and is supported by advertising. Advertising has no influence on which schemes we list or what the calculators return — the calculations are deterministic and run entirely in your browser. Details of the cookies advertising uses are in our cookie policy and privacy policy.
